anybody know where to get a stepped exhaust  stud. One like you use when you have to tap the exhaust studs out. Big on one end little on the other?

Scott,  Call John in parts at Al Johnson VW.   He may be able to help you out.  We use to get stuff like that at  " Wurth" products. They may be on-line now.

I got a helicoil insert for it. Seems to work, I guess I'll find out.
The newest edition of my motor is almost ready to go in. 1600 SP. Wasnt as stock as I started with. The heads I got were rebuilt long ago into big valve single ports. I'm actually doin sum figurin on the jet sizes for the carb. The factory jets are way too lean. More tinkerin to do.

I don't remember if they had other sizes, but I found some M6/M8 step studs at ACE in Ooltewah a couple of years ago.  They worked great for repairing stripped oil sump bolts.
