I definitely will. Ratwell has a pretty good article on sealing exhaust to the head: http://www.ratwell.com/technical/Exhaust.html
Thats what I'm talking about . I was doing most of what he stated long ago and its good that he did a good job of getting the news out. Do what he says.

Thanks for all the advice and thanks again to Nick for picking up my parts for me. I'm gonna get started on this tomorrow.

I got one of the pipes out already on the passenger's side. The driver's side has one stubborn bolt left, it's soaking in pb blaster right now. On the pipe that I removed, there were no copper gaskets whatsoever.

The bolt was too stubborn so I yanked the entire heater box. These appear to be what's left of my gaskets on that side. I can just reuse them right?

oh and save the old copper... it is worth some money. Not sure how much... but you figure a new gasket is 4 bucks....  ;)

I did find the old gaskets, they were just stuck up in the head. But they were intact. Currently filing away at my exhaust ports to get them smooth and even.

Wow! I just put the exhaust back on after filing the tops smooth and annealing the copper gaskets. The bus runs SO much quieter now, it's amazing! And I think it is idling smoother, which is another problem I had.

Thanks! Here's a video of the engine running, I wish I had a 'before' but you all remember what it sounded like. It's much quieter and smoother now.

I had a lot of good advice! Thanks :)

Today I'm going to replace the seals on the push rod tubes, they are leaking badly.

Okay, I just got everything back together after replacing the push rod tube seals and now it won't start. Any ideas? I couldn't have screwed it up that bad could I?
