Do like Alan said. You will have a little spring pressure to deal with but not much.  Matter of fact once you have the lid sitting on the hinge mounts, it will stay put by itselve with no bolts. Try to get the bolts in the same place where they were before so it will operate better.  This whole deal shouldn't take 10min.

Like they said, put the spring on the lid, put the end of the spring in the slot set in place and bolt it on.  What I do to make it a little easier is set one hinge in place with the lid at an angle THEN put the spring in the slot then twist the lid around to put the other hinge in place.  Once you get the hang of it, it's easy . . . but until you get it on once, you'll swear it's impossible.

I don't know what to say.  Its soooooo easy providing everything is intact.    It took me longer to type this post than it would take to put the lid on

Don't give up, it WILL go on.  Try again:

The lid goes on with it in the OPENED position.

Set one hinge on top of its bracket with the other hinge back away from the bracket.

Place the end of the spring in its slot.

Twist the lid in place putting the second hinge in place on its bracket.

I remember the first one I tried to put on . . . after a couple of hours of pushing, pulling, prying, sweating, cuss'n,  etc., a buddy of mine stopped by and popped it on in a couple of seconds.  It's not hard to do, but it IS hard to grasp the concept of how to do it without seeing it done.
