Love 'em.
I have used the Pertronix and the other non Empi one...
DO NOT USE EMPI, lots of bad reviews.

I have one in my bus. It is the petronix that I got from BugStuff at a show. I thought it was pricy, but it is par for the course. You need to be careful not to leave the key on and burn it out. And you should take the points and condenser and put them in the glove box in case it craps out on you. You can make a bad set of points work to get you home but once the electronic ignition is bad, you are SOL.

Yeah, what Nick said!  I put a Petronix unit in Homer the Super Bus years ago and have never had an ignition issue since.  But, when they go, their gone . . . better keep the points, condenser and all the screws you remove in a zip-loc baggie in the glove box just in case.

That is either a myth or an issue that only affected early models of the Pertronix system...I've left my key on plenty of times and never had an issue. Even Ratwell thinks it's dubious.

That said, I would not leave home without a set of points and condenser in my emergency parts stash. As cheap and small as they are, it's good insurance because there is no repairing an electronic ignition module if it goes bad on you.

I left my switch on for several days once and nothing happened to the ignition.  Don't try that with points!

Heck, I just carry around an extra 010 distributor in the ghia...
The brand I have is Compufire I believe.
They were 1/2 the price of the Pertronix ones and had them for the 2 piece points system disto's. Mine has almost 2 years and 3K miles on it with no issues.
I did buy 2 sets for both the 019 and the 010 I have, but have never installed on the 010.

I have used the pertronix in 3 different buggies including a off road race car for 2 years and a stroker turbo motor for 10 years with a msd box. All have had no problems and were in a stock 009. Good upgrade.
