door insulation - with "bubble wrap insulation"

« on: December 25, 2002, 06:17:48 PM »
Does anyone have any pictures of the use of the "silver lined bubble wrap" as insulation in doors and other panels of a bus?  I know I saw that Herb had done this to Lucille.  Any pictures of your project?
I need to know how someone did it because plan on doing it myself...but (shrug), I need direction.  ???

Well, after some searching, I found this post on soundproofing at the Westfalia Owner's Website.

There's some pretty informative posts and links regarding this topic of mine...

Herb and I have put this stuff in his buses and in my bus as well. No pics, but it's not a hard installation. You can buy rolls of the stuff at Lowe's, depending on the width, I think the 24" is about 30 dollars.

First we cut the stuff to fit in the door or side panel. It's really easy to cut with your scissors. Then we used a spray adhesive to attach it. 3M makes a good automotive grade spray adhesive that won't yellow or deteriorate in the weather. It holds pretty strong. You'll get glue all over your hands, but if you're patient you can line an entire bus in about a day. I think the results are well worth it.

Travis, I'm going to be putting this insulation in the 78 bus in the shop in the next few days. You are welcome to come over and watch and even help install if your leg will let you. Give me a call and I'll pick you up if you need me to.

Got Oscar insulated as much as I am going to do for now.  Pics located in Photo Gallery.  You can go search or you can click here.
It's amazing how much this has helped in the sound deadening and winter heat retaining qualities.  This adventure also gave me a chance to erase the rust on the floors.
