Doghouse question

« on: October 14, 2008, 02:44:47 PM »
I have seen in a number of pictures of people capping off the 2 " vent things " on the dog house that normally connect to the exaust. My question is if i can not attatch mine to my current exaust can i cap them off and what would work good for it. Also would capping them cause any problems and over heat my engine or such......Thanks guys...and ladies for any advice......

He's used to seeing the preheater style exhaust. Your exhaust is an Empi one and they aint there. You have to carefully snake your way past the exhaust and hook em up to the heater boxes. If you dont hook em up then no heat for you.

Heat is for wimps.you dont need it. Unless your car has no top then in the Godfathers case it's a plus. Matter of fact you shouldn't be allowed to have heat until your horn works, your interior light and tag light work....Then maybe.

thanks scott, i really never had heat last year either. After 5 years in iowa and minus 20 to 60 below zero wind chills the 30 degree temps here was nothing. I can hook up one side ( passenger ) with no problem, but the drivers side it just bends up the silver paper air tube thing. The air does flow enough. is there something else that works better for this? Oh by the way, my interior light, licence plate lights still do not work and i have no horn on the car so that still does not work..........

I wouldn't think so.  I have seen a lot of this over the years with no apparent problems. Then I read somewhere not long ago that the baffeling  was different on the "fresh air" shoud and could cause overheating.  I can't belive this because the air is stalled at the lever end of the heater box when you are not using the heat.  So what s the different's if the air is stalled at the shoud or the end of the heater box. If I didn't care about having heat because it just to much hassel to fix, block them off.
My Allison buggy has heat belive it or not.  Its just this thing about not having a top/side curtains yet that will limit the "comfy Zone " this winter.

Thanks David for the information. I thought along those lines but wanted to make sure before i did it. Now all i have to do is decide what to use like a Beer can or what if i cap them or if i can find a tube other than the paper ones that will be able to be fed around the pipe with out bending it all up on the drivers side.........or just get the correct exaust and sell this empi to someone else......

I have used the all alumn. hose and got better results. You do have to mash the pipe a bit on the drivers side. If you do this be sure to use a good clamp on the heater box end.

thanks again i will look for the all aluminum hose. The one i have on the drivers side now has a clamp on it to hold it on but i just do not like the bent up look. I will work it out and find me 2 barrel nuts to hook up the heater boxes and 4 engine tin screws to replace the ones i need....
