Clutch Peddle squeak

« on: November 04, 2008, 11:08:16 PM »
Checking to see what would be good to use on my clutch peddle that started squeaking tonight on the way home. Now nothing is wrong with the clutch itself. I want to know what would be best to " grease it up " so i can stop the squeak. Also what kind of grease should be used to grease up the chassy for the winter......

Now your just getting bored. I think you should take out the entire peddal assembly sand blast it,powder coat it then grease it down with a quality teflon lubricant.
Make sure to spray the pedals real good so when your done you can have your foot slip off and crash into sumthin. Then you'll have plenty of stuff to fix.

Just kiddin, never paid attention to what I used on mine. Just the average ole chasis grease from Autozone and a grease gun. As for the pedal almost anything would do.

Two ways you can try.   Get some "PB Blaster" and spray the pedals down and hope for the best.
If that doesn't work you will more than likely have to take the pedal cluster out and take it apart to clean and  grease.
I think the chassis grease you use is called "chassis Grease"

ok. i thought a normal chasie grease would work on the chasie but i wanted to make sure there was not special german volkswagon beetle grease that evryone liked better. I will work on cleaning the peddle cluster up and greasing it untill then i will just turn up the radio higher so i can not hear it........

All jokes aside (very difficult for me)... is the noise coming from the cluster or inside the frame tunnel.  If it's coming fom the tunnel, you may have a clutch cable guide tube that's pulled loose at the weld, they make a kinda screaching/ squawking sound when they come loose.

I went out and looked at the assembly inside the car and pushed the clutch peddle down and released it. The sound is comming from undeneath the car i guess around where the shifter goes into the the transmission i guess. I have not been able to get it up on the ramps to check yet but it sounds from that area if that helps. It never makes a sound when the shifter is moved but just when the peddle is moved up and down.

I think that if you pasted an autostick in your car that 67nut would quit talking to you.....
Seriously you give up a clutch pedal and cable, but you gain about 15 feet of extra vaccume hose!!!!
Think of all the fun you would have with every vaccume leak!!
 :D
Would be cool to have another ASBug around though.  I believe that you would be the one of just a few in the history of VW's that has decided to transplant an Autostick into a bug / ghia... usually it was the other way.
Take care and I'll hope that it is an easy fix for ya!

If ya have an original auto sick and cand find the parts for spares its worth having. I would never try putting one in a bug that didnt come with it.
There cool and all but a pain to mess with.

Trust me, i have enough issues with a regular beetle let alone try to make it something mechanicaly it is not. The only good thing from having an automatic is that i would not hear the wife saying " I wish i could drive the bug ". She knows how to drive a stick but it has been about 15 years sence she has. I just can not let her destroy the clutch trying to learn.....

Ah, but therein lies the problem.... the autostick is not an automatic....
It's like... i want to be an automatic, but i need some help.  Could you shift the gears for me?  Hey thanks, I'll let your left foot rest in the meantime as a return favor.

They're fine so long as they're behaving.

I guess.

During the parade the other day, it was wonderfull to just let off the brake and go and not even rev up the engine... ( I was in L- this was the only time I have ever used it.)

I heard all the rev and dump the clutch around me....

In traffic, they are great.  I hardly ever shift mine.
Thanks,
KC
