72Bus

carburetor

« on: December 06, 2006, 09:43:37 AM »
I hope that I can type this out and it makes sense. I have a 72 bus, but I do not have the same kind of motor that other 72's have. I have a single carburetor. Kyle seems to think that it may be a Weber. In order for me to accelerate, I would have to "play" with the throttle to get going. I got in the back of the bus and noticed that there is nothing connected to the butterflies. I am no mechanic by any means, but I am pretty sure that it should be connected to the throttle body or something. Right? Can someone please tell me if, and if so, where or what this should be connected to? Thanks in advance.

Your '72 type-2 came from the factory with twin carbs. They were a lot of trouble to keep adjusted.  After a few years and lots of miles they were next to impossible to deal with.  Some clever person came up with the single carb set-up. The kit came with a Holley/Weber two barrel carb original to the Ford Pinto, 4 chome runners and a alumimum plentum manifold for the carb to bolt to.  This kit ran very well on the type-4 engine you have. The throttle cable should be very to see and is connected to the carb body on the right side (pass. side) Have someone pat the accel. pedal and you will see the linkage move. If you have to pat  the pedal to get it to accel, the cable has to be there. You may have a carb problem if the engine balks, stutters, stalls. They get dirty also.
This kit was the common cure for the twin carb and fuel injection  problem children.
