Carb swap out

« on: April 21, 2008, 07:56:45 PM »
So I managed to pick me up a brand new 30/31 at BAP.  I figured I needed to change mine since every time I turn off the engine it drips from the accelerator cable linkage and the fact that it stalls every time you come to a stop if you don't keep your foot on the gas.  Of course you know I'm running a 28 with the original govenor.  Here is the questions.
Can I continue to use my govenor? If not, Can I bolt the carb directly to the manifold or do I need to use a spacer?

Brian,  I suppose you have tried to deal with the 28, rebuild etc?   I think you are supposed to have a 30mm carb to begin with. 67 right ?  Does the gov. work ?   I think you can use the gov. but you might have to change some studs .  Been to long can't remember. If you don't use the gov.  you will have to use a spacer I belive to keep the carb accel. pump housing  from hitting the gen. If the gov. does not work, you could gut the thing and use the housing for a spacer.

hey Brian,  if your 67 is any where like my 69 ( i have a 30 / 31 carb ) on mine. When i put my new one on i tried it without the spacer because it did come with it. I found it did hit the generator. So i took the spacer from the old carb on the engine and it sat fine as you saw when you were at my house. .........Rob

I did rebuild the 28 carb but I think I cleaned it up so well that I opened up some air gaps.  The bus is a 67.  Govenor works great.  I had previously bought a spacer just in case the govenor closed up on me.  I just wasn't sure if the govenor was setup specifically for the 28 carb since it has 28 stamped on the front of the govenor.

With the gov. working off the intake vacumn port , I'm not really sure if it would make a lot of difference. You can re-calibrate the gov. if you want to mess with it. I'm surprise it still works at all.
