I remember those photos of your " New" engine. Jezzz !   That thing looked like it was built by Roto-Rooter.I really shouldn't say that because Roto-Rooter would have done a better job.  Did you ever get any satifaction from this dude ?

Scott, Is this the engine you want to build your modified on or are you looking at starting with new "stuff"
If you are going to go with the second engine idea, I think you need to build your stock engine yourselve. I can hide and watch to keep you out of trouble and not lead you down the garden path.
I can alignbore your case if need be, show you how to do your cly. heads, check your crankshaft etc etc.
The reasons that I am not thrilled about building a modified engine for someone else is that it seems you have to "fiddle around" with the dang thing to get it right sometimes. Might be 15 min. or may take a while. Reason #2 is that there is so much new and better stuff out there now that its better left to someone who knows what it is and how to use it.
Reason #3 is I don't want to have to explain to the customer why his very expensive engine took a dump at 30,000 miles or less.
I don't care who builds the engine, if you start making Big Horse Power you will pay the price in the long run. You just can not double or triple the horse power and expect it to "Hang In" there for  miles without something going wrong.
If you want to wrinkle up the asphalt and "Blow" your neigbors Rambler off, buy a Cobra.

Scott, I get most of my parts from Al Johnson VW/Volvo in Dalton. I can get a break on prices.
You can take the engine apart without much problem. There are a few things you have to be careful with. Just don't get "heavy handed" on some things until you talk to me.
If you have a "Jones" about trusting what is inside the case, I think that is a no-brainer. Would be for me. If you have the heads off,you are only about 30min away from spliting the case. There is really no way to check the main, cam crankshaft brgs. or the case until you split the case. You will be amazed how simple this is.

got a little info the case is staying together it was in fact a short block waiting to be finished and then slapped together for the car. The pistons are 88mm whatever that makes it. Everything look good as far as the rings and heads and thats about as far as I'm going for now.
I think I'm just going to replace all the junk parts and put it back in.
I'll holler if I foul up something.

Well OK, 88mm makes it a 1641cc.  Wow!!!   You had better take a good look at those 88's.  If they were of the" slip in" type, they had a nasty habit of warping or heat damage due to the very very thin cly's.  You could run through a mud puddle with a hot engine and warp the cly's. You say the rings look good?  I presume then you have the cly's off and not counting on what the cly's look like. Keep me posted.

Bows before the Godfather and kisses his ring.

I have been busier than a 3 legged cat covering poop Godfather to take any action action against the guy in Oregon. He actually called me about 2 months ago. He was looking for some parts, said he had bought stuff from me before. I played dumb (thats a debateable statement) and acted like I did not know him and told him I did not deal in VW parts. Got his new phone number though!! LMAO.....

We had one man quit here with 9 years experience, one man who has about the same experience is out again due to surgery and that leave the newest guy I trained about 2 years ago and me to cover the control room. I wanted to get one of my lawyer friends from my law enforcement days to send him a rather pointed letter to the fact that we are in the process of taking legal action against him. But you know what I can take care of that matter as soon as I can sit down at the computer and "get er done." Just want to get his attention!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I posted this in the members site, thought I would put it here for those who do not have access to that site and I had told I would meet them at the show.

Well folks, I will not be able to make it to the show after all. At my job here we only have 4 operators. I am the lead operator and since the manager retired in December have to take care of everything on daily operations. I did this before he retired anyway!! On Feb 17 one of the operators resigned. He had almost 9 years here. The next senior man with almost 9 years experience had surgery on Wednesday. The earliest he may be back is the middle of May if all goes well. That leaves the guy I trained 2 years ago and me to cover things. I am working night shift 7 nights a week till further notice. The instrument tech, maintenance tech will cover the other guys days off. He refuses to work more than 5 days a week!! Whatever!!  I am on call for this and the other 2 plants in case of emergency.

I know the show will be great as ususal. I wish you the best of weather for that weekend. Herb I will give you a call and get with you for sure next week so I can give you the coloring books. See you folks when I can. God knows when that will be! LOL

Moe, Sorry to hear you will not be we us  at BP-8. Sounds like someone or something just doesn't want to let you have some fun. Maybe you could tell the powers in charge that you are going to have open heart surgery and they will just have to deal with it.
Dang !! I was looking forward to meeting you.
