Hmmm a 67 restoration!!! Been there and done that. IMHO a 2017cc stroker would be a great engine. A 1776 is a great engine size too.The 2017cc is what we started with and it was and still is an excellent daily driver engine. Not too expensive to build overall.
Finding original parts can be tough and especially with the 67. Build the transaxel to handle the extra power. The 2017 ripped the spyder gears out of the stock tranny when a tractor trailer came over the hill as Josh was pulling out of Oversprays place one afternoon. He was already in gear but punched it hard and that took care of the gear.
I see you plan on doing the work yourself. I got some good suggestions for each phase if you decide to have the work done by others:
1. Paint & Body: Charles Overton (Overspray) at Overtons Resto in Tallapoosa
2. Transaxel: Ronnie Hunter in Hiram Ga
3. Engine: Steve Sands at Pro Flow Performance in Hiram
These I recommend from personal experience.
