Bus tires

« on: March 10, 2010, 01:29:00 PM »
One of the guys at Coker was asking me about "knobby" tires that came on '57-'63 buses.  Does anyone have any insight or knowledge of this?  If so, what is the correct size and can you supply me with a picture?  Thanks in advance.

I have seen them installed after the fact.  (My 62 beetle had a pair of knobby tires on the rear the guy used in the snow).

Never heard of anything originally fitted to them.  I would say look carefully at the load rating, as always, on a bus.  Most of the repro. bias ply tires i have seen have  a fairly low weight rating on them.... a subject we have covered several times here.  A definite no-no on a bus.  Continental Vanco tires are a good choice, you can find them in 14", don't know about 15".

Is coker going to repro them? Last I checked... I bought the last 8 ply bus tire (or any load rated tire for that matter) they had :( That was just for my spare and a couple years ago... I ended up ordering the replacement set online. I miss coker being right down the street...
