The saga continues... I've driven it around very carefully for a few weeks and it stops... but it's definitely not right (at times I've had to keep the handbrake on halfway!).

The good news is that the fluid level hasn't dropped... so I'm confident that I have no leaks.  I took it back down to the brake shop earlier and they bled it with a pressure bleeder.  Taking it back out again, it brakes less than it did before :(

I'm back to MC #2 again... there's just nothing else that can possibly be the problem!!

virgo062, who is Rick.. and if I pay him money can he please get this stupid car working!!!

Matb I feel you pain brother...Call Rick @ 423-305-1861 I got FeeBee back yesterday and the brakes are fantastic....She's ideling but not running very well. We really had to rev her up to get her home. But that's not Ricks' fault.  I'm not very good at listening   but I heard him say there was a couple plugs in the MC one where the fluid comes out and one where the brake lights hook to. We (the other mechanic) had them crossed. He really didn't think that would make a difference but after 3 MC and $119.00 she's stopping VERY GOOD. Maybe someone can spain better what I'm trying to say. Maybe he will read this and correct me  ...IDK Call him you will be glad you did. Now David your turn

Now the $119.00 was not just for the MC he did other things too. Take it to him and avoid the frustration

I can't belive you guy didn't see the plugs.    They are most of the time a bright blue telling that "something" needs to be screwed in there.

I can't find anything on the cylinder or box saying where it's from.  I may have found the importers online: http://www.kmminc.com/about.phtml   The wheel cylinders I got from MF are also KMM.

Interestingly, the last cylinder I bought from mainly Foreign came in an unbranded white box and I can't find any mention of manufacturer on that one.

Is someone trying to con me? :(

What make MC would you recommend, and where should I get it from?

Hello all!  Thanks Debbie for all the kind words!!  The switches were just in the wrong spot on your master cylinder...I have no idea if that even matters, they were installed on the upper set of holes and should have been on the lower.  The master cylinder problems are not just isolated to VW parts...there is plenty of "NEW" junk for all brands.  I have had better luck with reman. stuff when it comes to things like that.  At this point I would rather have something that worked at one time and was "re-done" than something that was made new in a country that can't even say Volkswagen   Mine is a single master, when it went out last month I replaced it with a reman unit  and had no trouble at all. The new crap I'm seeing is way worse than the old stuff cleaned up with new rubber parts.  I have seen 3 NEW water pumps that would not bolt up due to improper impeller depths in the last couple months and all 3 were on different vehicles....and were different brand names!!  :?   Q.C. is out the window..just costs too much!  That being said..MattB, I think you may be going to a brake shop on Brainerd rd.?.  I have a friend that works there and he has told me of all the trouble they have been going through trying to get brakes on your car...If your new master cyl. gives you trouble I would be happy to take a look at it for no charge.

Good luck!
Rick.

Hey Rick, Ditto on some of this "Junk" new parts.  We ran into some of this stuff as far back as the early '80s.   We started to rebuild these M/C . We used O.M. kits made by ATE.   Success rate was 100%.   I wonder if these kits can be had today ?  For awhile they were very hard to find.
A lot of these "no name" master cylinders came out of India. Give a wide berth to anything that has rubber parts from India. Maybe even China now.
This is the reason that I don't do any brake work anymore. Liability
I'm sure that you have Garage liability Ins.  If you don't, you better get some. Did you know that there is a law in Tn that if someone brought a car to you for some repairs and you found out that it didn't have any brakes ,you could repair his brakes without the customers permission and he would have to pay you. Its a safety thing.  Good luck with that one in court .
I hope you Guys have a Merry Christmas and your S.O. is OK :santa:

Hi all,

Hope you had a great Xmas!

Rick, yup I've taken Gerty down to Budget Brakes to get the brakes bled but the two times I've had it down there they've struggled to get it running properly.  They think she's possessed.

I fitted the new master today.  I've only had chance to bleed the front brakes and it's already much much better.  I'll get the rears done tomorrow and see how it goes.. but this time I'm (finally) pretty confident.  Thanks for the offer to take a look - if I can't get it sorted tomorrow I'll be taking you up on your offer!
