Anyone know a good place to take a beetle in and get it rewired? How much would something like this cost?

If you are talking about a complete rewiring job from headlights to tail lights  . . . Complete wiring harnesses are availble for most Beetles and it's a pretty straightforward installation, but it's very time consuming.

Profesional Mechanic X Lots of Hours = LOTS AND LOTS of $$.

The good news is that Beetles (especially older ones) have a very simple wiring harness.  If you have the body off and every thing stripped out of it, it's really not that hard to run the harness yourself . . . and if it's a pre-73, the wiring diagrams are pretty easy to follow too.  The 73 & later diagrams are a challenge for the shade tree mechanic, plus there were more electrical goodies in the later years.  If it's a 73 or later, it might be worth the cost of a profesional, but 72 and back, I'd say do-it-yourself is the way to go.   :alien:

:withstupid: Like Zen said, it's not too hard on an older car.  It just takes patience and time.  I did a 67 bus in an afternoon.  It might help if you get one of those matching-color harnesses to cut the old wires, leaving some insulation, and match up colors.  Some colors do fade or darken with age, but you'll get most of them easy.  I remember the trick with the front-to-rear harness in the bus was to tape the back of the old to the front of the new, and pull it out/in from the front.  Have fun and patience!
