beetle engine

i have a 69 beetle with dual port engine . how do i know if its the orginal
engine in the car.or what type engine 1300,1500,1600?

Do a search on google  " vw engine codes"  the samba link has some good info

Your car came from the factory with single port 1500cc 53hp engine.  The dual port  1600cc 60 hp was not offered until '71 in the U.S. and was used up to the last Beetle(U.S. spec.)   Your engine should carry the A.E. code at the front of the engine # thats under the gen/alt stand.

Thanks for the help. Here is the engine code, doesnt seem to match anything i found so far. Can someone help me out     #AK029068

AK marked cases were produce from August '72 to December of '73 . Lets call it a '73 ;D
