Y'all know when we camp, all our heat (whatever we can make) goes up and right out our canvas!
You know the insulation that Herb put in his bus doors, etc.?  Kind of like chrome bubble wrap.  Keeps heat in, right?
I checked out Ace Hardware to see, and they had 4-foot wide rolls of this stuff.  It would take around $70 to have enough length to go around, and then I realized, the way it would be cut, you can make TWO from that length!  Sooooo... I'm wanting to see if anyone wants to split the cost and each of us get a blanket in time for this weekend, or Sevierville, or whenever!

ATTN: POP-TOP CAMPERS!!!!!! - great idea for c-c-cold c-c-camping

That sounds like a great idea Anthony . . . I believe I'd go in with you on it, only my pop top camper isn't a pop top . . . in fact, it's not even a camper.   :whatsthat:

But, on a related subject . . . Anyone have any ideas for heat in a non-camper bus?  :help:  I've seen a small Coleman cataletic heater that might work.  Are they safe to use in a bus?  Keep in mind we don't have ANY camping gear in the bus, we'll probably be sleeping on an air mattress on the floor.

I've got a tent a some sleeping bags . . . but my scouting days are over!  I've gotten too soft to handle sleeping on the ground when it's below freezing.  So, any ideas you experiance bus campers can give me about keeping warm, I'll appreciate!

We've got one of the Coleman Catalytic heaters.  It'll keep a bus pretty toasty.  It runs on those canisters you get at Wal-Mart or anywhere for a couple of bucks apiece for 6-8 hours.  Assuming we will have electricity for our space heater, you can use ours this weekend.

OR...

You could always run an extension cord through a cracked window with a power strip, and use an electric heater.

Dad and I were using one of those Coleman Heaters on the way back from BugJam in the front of the bus and it really helped, but we sure didn't get 6-8 hours out of it, more like 2?  Was it just a faulty tank?

We fired it up sometime after dark and then it quit out on us N. of Atlanta and we just shivered our a$$es off the rest of the way home :3dconfused:

might have something to do with it workin' overtime to keep all the NEW cold air that was coming in warmed.

camping wouldn't have near as much cold air coming in.

Well, if you have electricity you can use a space heater to keep you toasty.  The ones with a thermostat are better because they will not stay on all night...rather they would try to keep the camper at a consistent temperature.  Works in theory.

If you want to go the propane route, I would suggest getting one of those "safe" propane heaters that run off of the small canisters or the big 20-gallon cylinder.  I saw one yesterday at Northern Tools for around (gulp) $90.  They are "supposed" to burn so cleanly that there are no fumes.  Or you can use one of those that screw on the top of the small cylinders (Coleman, not the cheapo Wal-Mart,K-Mart, Whatever-Mart brand...Colemans last longer) and crack a window or somethin'...wouldn't want to wake up burnt...or even worse, in the morning.  :devilfire:

But back to the bubble wrap insulation...when you say "blanket"...are you talking about using is as a blanket...or giving your pop-top a blanket?  That would be neat.  On the inside or the outside?

Then again, some warm themselves up with :beerchug: or even  :spank: but that's just some...

Yeah, just wrap it around the outside of the canvas, and fasten it with Velcro!  Go from :cheesy:  to :smoke: !

We found a roll at Lowe's for a little cheaper, about $56.00.  That and a $5 roll of Velcro.  As it turns out, to really make it fit the entire top, you can't make 2 from 1 roll.  If you did, it would leave gaps at the top and bottom, but I guess it would still be better than nothing.  Saturday at 7AM-30 deg. outside, 70 deg inside, with a little bitty space heater, so it did real well!  Now that the original is made, cutting out a copy would be easy.

The little (3,000 BTU) heater VWTrav and I had in the bus had already been run 5-6 hours before our trip home from Florida. They are perfectly safe for use inside an enclosed area and there is absoulety no odor conected with it.  slam

I just failed to bring another tank with us for the heater. Travis and I both "ran out of gas" that weekend. The major difference with my BOOBOO was that we (Travis) didn't have to walk anywhere. :tounge:

The little heaters are great though and I highly reccommend them.
