Alignment and ball joints

The beetle beam and the Thing beam are the same with exception of the welded/bolted brackets the Thing beam has on the shock up-rights that holds a tube thats bolted to the lower frame head pan. I put a '66 beam on a '73 thing and installed all the springs, control arms with no problem.

David did you say you could align a balljoint front end?I had mine done about a year ago by someone who is suppose to be good.Well if you step back and look you can see that it can't be right. It was done on a machine.Would it just look like that because I have the 4inch tires on the front.I want to change to the 6 inch bigger tire on the front anyway.I have to find a set of the same type of wheel for the front.Really don't want to buy a new set of tires and wheels.Don't have any money trees growing that I can see.lol

John, If you ment setting toe end , camber etc.  I cannot do that, but I can replace ball joints without taking the arms off.  I would think any good shop could align a VW. Its not rocket science.

Hey John, I know a guy at Pep Boys on Hwy 153 in Hixson who was real good on bug alignments.  He's a former West Coast/ California guy by the name of Ken King.  Ken is the alignment/brake specialist at that location and has done a number of Bugs in his time.  If you call, ask for him and let him know what you've got.  Tell him Rick up at the Volkswagen dealership suggested him and see if he can hook you up...it's probably been a while since he's been called upon to align a beetle front end, but, as David said, they're fairly straight forward.
Be sure to check the front end for worn stuff/ play.  He could replace parts too, but it would be a lot cheaper if you tackle the parts replacement before taking it in for the alignment.
