air cleaner

What is the take on the orginal air cleaner that has the oil bath vs a chrome aftermarket cleaner in the cold?

had been using the aftermarket during summer and fall, but got concerned about the winter months.
Of course my orginal breather doesn't have the wire from the thermostat to open and close for the warm air and not sure of the affects if I tie the flap open on the cleaaner to get warm air all the time.

I was wondering if the aftermarket causes a lot of trouble in the winter idling, warming up, etc or do a lot of you use the orginal cleaners.
Has anyone allow warm air to come through the carb all the time.

Thanks
Ron

I'm sure there's a deabate on this and someone will come along soon to post it.
I use aftermarket aircleaners and haven't noticed any problem so far.

Thanks, but didn't want to start a debate. Just thought as long as some of you all have been around the bugs, might know if cold weather has that much of an adverse affect on the carb or how much of it is myth and that the orignal oil breathers help or not so much in this part of the country.

I've ran both.  To gain any real advantage with cold weather warm-ups, you need all the various hoses, thermostats, flaps, etc. hooked up and in working order . . . something that is a pretty rare find.  You'll also need the engine thermostate and flaps hooked up and working . . . another rare find.  Without that, it's just an air filter.  For a filter, I like the oil bath better.  A good aftermarket filter may do as good or better job, and they aren't as messy, but I still like the oil bath.  At least you can hook up the crankcase vent properly with the oil bath.  Just my opinion . . .   8)
