Most of the time the piston does surive. Ah there is nothing like a 2003cc. Type 4 engine. At least you can run cheap gas on that clylinder

Well lets see. You knocked a big dent in top of the piston. Wouldn't that increase the total volume say at TDC ?  If you could pour fluid into a flat top piston at TDC,it would hold so much fluid then knock a big dent in the piston you would then have to add more fluid to fill up the dent thus adding total cc but a tiny ,tiny loss of compression in that cly.
Here is one for you. I once knew this VW tech who had a hell of a time putting cam timing belts on Rabbits. He kept trying to use the front crank pulley marks instead of using the "0" mark on the flywheel to help out things. I asked why he did it that way. He told me you could not use the flywheel because the flywheel was larger in dia. causing it to turn less RPMs than the front crank pulley causing the cam shaft to be out time. I looked at him for a second and said OK turned and walked away.

well... my math was based on a 2.0L being 1971cc + your guesstimation of my valve seat ding on the piston at 3cc= 1974cc....

I'm going to stop picking on the Godfather now as VW Girl is beating him up enough.
Sorry David,

I love to "prime" the pump....     Do you know why the 2.0 is only 1971cc ?   And of course you are correct on your math.

Oh , I don't mind getting beat up on.  Spread the love besides when the forums slow down ,throw a little "clinker" in and sit back and watch what happens. I once made a comment about " Westfailures" and for a few days I caught hell. Everybody in SCVF knows how much I love anything connected with Type-4 engines including 411-412 cars. Bring on the comments. I can handle it. 8)

Hey-Hey-Hey???!?

(oozing mock indignation)

Who's thread is this anyway??

(snicker)

Normal in FL?   Gadzooks no, I'm an uptight New England Boy, Pathetic Tried and True Sox/ Pats fan and random malfeasant who tries to use his years of science training Powers for Good instead of Evil, and still stares in befuddlement when cashiers thank me for purchases here in FL, instead of staring at me displeasedly for interrupting their cup of coffee to give me change as in MA!

However

College kids still drive the same here as they do up there tho- like crap!*

(*Apologies to any college VW folks and their rides reading this; my ire is aimed mostly at 19yr olds in Escalades)

(but I'm not bittah)

Have a groovy weekend all, thanks for the help.
mike

OK "Peckerwood"  I had to go look that one up(Gehackt). Chopped, Hacked and I'm not sure what they meant with "Hoe'd".  That one could have several definitions. Where do you fit in ?
Did I learn something about Cam belts from this Dude ? You bet.
I had always wondered why my new '83 GTI tried to turn hard right when I "stomped" on the gas. I always thought it was torque steer, but could it have been that the pulley( right) side of the engine was turning faster than the left (Flywheel) side. Hell ! No wonder
I heard this same Guy telling a customer that he shouldn't run his Bug at high RPMs because it would cause his cooling fan to " decrappatate" and quit cooling. Whats really wierd is this could actualy happen if you had a "jones" about turning your engine 7000 RPM all day long. I don't think we would have to worry about that very long.  :?
I have a lot of his little Jems written down over the years. Priceless !

Sorry for highjacking your post Mike, it's still yours but it is open games if your questions have been answered.

David, your Old-Timers must be kickin' in as I already answered that Gehackt question over in Geneal Disscusion as the last post under BAP9 results!!
1 day at a time, 1 day at a time

Make sure you keep the Kudzu off or your flag pole. I don't want that stuff getting to that BAP3 shirt you have flying your distess signal! 8)

How do you like my Signature?? You probably know a few of these guys

i have no idea why a 2.0 is a 1971... none of the vw engines are equivalent to the 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 etc litres.

i have so much going on today that i dont have time to look in to it either... it seems as though i have not had a day off since i moved up here :?
