63 bug that needs to be low!!!

« on: February 28, 2015, 05:04:13 PM »
Please help! I know I want to lower my beautiful 63. I want to narrow the beam, drop spindles and adjusters. My problem is, I have no way to do it myself. Who, in the Chattanooga area, can and will do this? I can remove the beam and remove the pins. But I have no resources to be able to narrow the beam or reinstall the spindles. Any ideas are greatly appreciated

I like to narrow the beam 6 inches, install adjusters and dropped spindles, it depends on what all you want to do but i can do it if you bring me the beam.

if you want the front really low it is the way to go, you will also need small front tires.  you need german link pin and king pin kits.  dropped spindles, shortened tie rods.  ive done a few this way and the folks that taught me tried other ways and found the 6 inch narrow is the best

Can I keep shocks? Or do you remove the towers? If I keep the towers, any body mods to make them fit being 6" shorter? Sorry about that dumb questions, I'm new to the air cooled world.

throw the shocks in the trash, towers are gone, no body mods needed, mine would occasionally rub the headlight buckets. it rode surprisingly good, even on the freeway, only bad thing is hitting a harsh bump

Plenty of info on the samba,  when you get ready I can find out for you,  it may have been on my 62 project tread.  Rick is throwing pottery instead of wrenches

I owned that car for a few months, It had 145 50R15's on the front when I had it.
Smart Car tires I ordered off of Tirerack.com They were snow tires for a smart car.
