36'r questions

« on: May 18, 2009, 08:49:50 PM »
I have a few 36'r questions for the resident guru.
I need to know the valve clearance for a 36'r?
the torque spec for the pressure plate/clutch??
If the lifters fit more than one way? they have a notcjh that"clicks" in I assume thats right but have no clue.
do the middle 2 rocker arms just rest against a spring? There doesnt seem to be anything other than spring pressure holding them??Wont they slip off?
Mysterious lil bugger to say the least.

These lil varmits are way different than a 1600.

OOHHH... time to be buying an old manual off of the samba...

Dunno, myself.  I have worked on the internals of a 36hp once, the rest of the work (very little at that) has been outer work, tune-up, etc....
A 40hp is close enough to the later 1300-1600 to get by, but, like you said, the 36er is a different ballgame.

Original valve lash is .004. I use to set them on .006.   The push rod will only go in one way.  They are a one piece rod. The lifter is attach to the push rod. I,m not sure what you mean " rest against a spring".  The rockers are just like any other VW  engine and the valves adjust just like any other 1200 to 1600.
