03 new beetle audio question

« on: April 09, 2009, 03:53:29 PM »
my audio in my beetle is all stock and it has never had and kick out of the rear speakers. didnt know if this was normal or if maybe i have a problem.  my beetle has the monsoon sound system with 6 disc changer mounted in the rear, i can balance out the audio if i run it mostly to the rear of the car but it sounds flat when i do that. never really bothered me that much, but i've been thinkin about redoing the system and thought id see about this first.

Even with the monsoon, output from the rear speakers has never been much to get excited about from a new beetle.  My golf has a different sound to it, but i honestly don't know if it's really different or just the interior "globe" if you will.

The Beetles with the Monsoon system had an additional pair of speakers in the upper trim panels on the dash that the cars with the stock stereo didn't have and tended to be a little "front heavy" soundwise.  The theory was, as far as I could tell, since you had such a large amount of room in front of you anyway just concentrate the soundstage there.

Your not supposed to have a huge amount of sound in the back. The rear speakers are supposed to be rear fill. The proper staging is to have it sound like the music is in front of you. The best set ups use a midbass for the rear with very little highs or mids. Bass below 80hz is non directional so it doesnt much matter wher a sub is placed to a degree. There are folks in the car audio world who spend years working on the perfect front staging of their system and the average Joe just wants it louder.

Couple  years of car stereo compeptition sponsered by Kicker lots of $$$ spent no real benifits from it but you can make some cools seat massagers for your heated seats.
I've worked on car audio since I was 15 built several prize winning systems but it got too crazy for even me. neon, mirrors, fiberglass everything not to mention some serious pimp my ride water falls, shoe displays. I mean really what are these folks thinking.
I still remember the basics on some days. I try to stay out of it, systems lead to rice burners and watching bad Vin Diesel movies.Plus car audio is like most other things, overwhelmed with junk suppliers and hacks and that leads to customers who want alot for a little.

On subject I think a single 10 or 12 on a mono amp or a nice lil set of 8's would help the bug system alot.

I sold and installed for 2 years in Dalton Ga so trust me i know all about the rice burners not to mention I have put some ridiculous stuff in some strange cars, but i do know a little about the vw new beetle sound system. i had the 04 satellite new beetle special edition and i blew 3 pairs of front monsoon premium door speakers until vw tried to tell me that the reason that I was blowing door speakers was due to the two ten inch subs that i had wired in the rear. they told me that they would not let the warranty cover anymore speakers. so i changed the head unit to something with a little more internal punch and omg the change was fa nominal more from every speaker in that thing! so if you wont to go to the whole rear subs thing than i suggest a new head unit also if you were to use the stock unit than you will have treble going through you subs and they don't like that. if you have any question just shoot a personal message at me and i will help anyway i can.

A nice new head unit fixes many things. I agree plust to run an amp for subs you have to have a line out to them. i doubt the factory cd player has a spare one.
