'78 bus drivers seat wont budge! wanting to remove it

« on: April 16, 2014, 05:40:50 PM »
Hi guys!

When i lift up on the seat adjustment bar beneath my drivers seat the two rods that extend out and into the seat runner slots that should allow it to move forwards and backwards move upwards a little but the seat wont shift even a tiny bit forwards or back. I've had it out before and i dont think it's gotten wet and rusted. Do i need to reach under there with a couple of wedges or prybars or something and push those two rods further upwards in the slots they are in? I have covered my seats with fabrics to customize my Dub and I'm pretty sure the fabric isn't blocking the movement but it's completely frozen in place and wont budge even a tiny bit as though the holders arent releasing. thanks for any info!

I've had seats that bind (rotates side to side) on the tracks and wedges itself in there. Try pushing back and getting it back in line. Then try again and pull evenly. They can be tricky but don't pry! You don't want to bend anything.

If the connecting Rod to the non lever side is missing it will not move but will rock.  This causes one of the adjuster levers to raise (disengaging the teeth) but the other stays firmly intact.
Look under the seat and verify that both sides of the adjuster teeth are lifting out of the seat track teeth when you raise the handle to adjust...Put some oil on the tracks as well.
