" It's Alive"

Well guys,  My '72 Super Beetle is now running.  It took me over a week to pull the engine, buy a new long block, change all the stuff over, put the motor in and crank it up. I could have hired it all done. I would have had to wait a day or two for someone to get started and I didn't want to wait.  I am so glad I did it myself.  I don't know how well or how long it's gonna' run, but I don't even care.  It feels sooo good.  Thank you so much for the tips.  This is the most auto repair I have EVER done.  I know it would be minor to most of Ya'll,  but it's a big deal to me.  My very first car was a '62 bug I bought with grass mowing money for 175 bucks.  I ran the PP out of it for years and STILL didn't learn to work on it.  Anyhow I'm back in the saddle again.  I'm sure I'll have more questions if you don't mind answering.   I couldn't have done it without you.
                                        Thanks a bunch,
                                                  Hip
PS.    I will pay some cash and join as soon as I get some groceries after spending a wad on Krautwagen parts

Glad to hear that project engine was a success.  Keep the questions coming.  I honestly believe this group of folks to be some of the most helpful and hands-on of any car club that I've had any sort of dealings with.  A lot of clubs are filled with people who have never turned a wrench on a car in their life.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.  My own father sholdn't stray far from filling the gas tank or topping of the windshield fluid, if you ask me.  But it really does help when you're surrounded by folks who've been working on these cars for a while.  Everybody, no matter how new or old to a VW can learn something every now and then.  As Zen said, there are no stupid questions.  (Not to mention that if you fail to ask somebody before getting in over your head, it could cause you a lot of grief, time, money, or all of the above.)
Once you've got the engine broken in, and get a few hundred miles on her, I've always done an oil change to get that break-in oil out of there and a valve adjustment.  After that, you should be ready to cruise.
