Well it finally happened I wore the bearings out and got a lovely sound from the engine. No biggie.I'm trying to rebuild one now. Heres the problem:
When I get to the part where I put the right half of the case back on and I get to torquing the main bearing studs I dont get past snugging them up and it freezes up and wont turn. I'm trying 15lbs then 20lbs then 25 lbs. I make it just past 15 sometimes to 20 then blam no turning.I've broke it down several times. The bearings semm seated and fine. what else could cause it to bind??? I'm coming unglued so I left it alone, should be fun to pull apart again in the morning. Oh and bearing size is standard.

Never mind got it all worked out, case closed. Well it's sealed and torqued anyways.  I figured if I lose patience it probably requires 5 more minutes past that turns out that was about right.

OK,  'Fess up. What did you do ?    I want the truth now. How free does it turn now ?   I have about 5-6 reasons . I want to know which one it was.

It was what it seemed,go figure. The rear bearing wasn't seating correctly,it deceived me by having it's front 2 friends be a pain in my butt, alll the time hiding in the back laughing at me. That sound about smart or what?

Now it's good, spins free and clear,if it dont explode when I start it I'll be happy. if it work correctly I'll be overjoyed.  I gotta go set the endplay on it and get tp puttin the P&C's in dang I'm close to done.

Ah !!   Reason # 1.  The mother of all reasons.  If Rick didn't show you the 2 sec. trick to check, I'll tell you about it next time I see you. Hope you didn't dimple the bearing with the dowel pin, but if it turns free you are more than likely OK. Keep your fingers crossed.

It's still fighting me! The reaplcement case wasnt made for a doghouse oil cooler so there was another job to do.Then it turns outseveral of the studs were a hair to long and hit the rocker arms...I'll get there. Whatever a shop would charge it ain't enough,I'm wondering how many 8 hr days this wouls take someone who was good at it.So far it's taken me way to long.I'd rather be slow than sloppy I think.

No big problem really to convert it just another extra step. I'm finding as told when you add enhancements that are not supposed to be there you have to make some modifications.Geeze what a pain.
I know I was told already.

Here's a new one I switched the tins to a set that wasnt dented all to crap and now there's a space on each end where the fan housing meets the cylinder tin.I've seen spacers sold for that just wondered what combo caused it?
Also I have a hexbar linkage and the fan shroud is closer to the bar on 1 side than the other. Could the shroud be canted on one end?It looks crooked but everything lines up I need one side to move forward or back or a little of both.Any ideas?

Factory single port is sounding better and better.

I'm not exactly sure what to tell you about the tin without a" look see"
What was with the cly studs hitting the rockers. Did your original heads have a step cast in where the top of the cly sat and your new heads not have the step ? ( Which would cause the head to sit down on the cly further lessning the distance between the head and case).

Aftermarket studs, they were a little long so I had to trim them. The motors in but the carbs are leaking(diaphrams) so no go go for me yet.

Well it ran, problem seems to be massive vacum leaks in the manifolds. Plus I found the idle jets were clogged.I spent my time waiting onparts cleaning and rebuilding the carbs.Got a CB performance manfold/linkage kit ,put it together last night. So today might be the day.I'm off to the garage to finish it.
Whoever decided to make the manifold generic to fit type 1's and 3's needs to be shot.Empi manifolds are junk like everything else the now make.I highly recomend the CB model if you just gotta run ict's.
