Happy Holidays from The Scenic City Volks Folks!

It's that time of year again! There are several holiday related activities that the Volks Folks will be participating in.

Wednesday, December 5, 2007 - Channel 3's Share Your Christmas Food Drive

For the 10th year, the Scenic City Volks Folks will caravan together to the Channel 3 Share Your Christmas Food Drive.
UPDATE!!! UPDATE!!! Channel 3 called and wants us there at "5pm" To join us for this event, meet on the street by the First Tennessee pavilion. We will drive in together just before 5:00. If you can't get there before 5, just pull on into the pavilion as soon as you arrive. We will probably be inside for about 15 minuets. They are cutting to the pavillion live at 5:00 and 5:10, so even if you are a little late, you might still end up on TV! Regardless if you can make it there to go through with the group, we encourage everyone to gather up some non-perishable food items to donate and help support this very worthy cause!

Friday, December 7, 2007 - Ringgold Christmas Parade / Scenic City Volks Folks December Cruise-in

Bring your family and your VW, some Christmas decorations, a few bags of candy and ride with the Scenic City Volks Folks in the Ringgold Christmas Parade! We've had a large group in this parade for several years . . . help us make this year the biggest and best decorated group yet! We start lining up in the Ringgold High School parking lot about 5:00. The parade doesn't start until 6:00, but the parking lot fills up fast. If you get there too late, you might not be able to get over to where our group is parked.

This is the first Friday of the month, so it's also Cruise-In night! After the parade, we are going over to Portofino's. Even if you can't make it for the parade, come hang out with us afterwards!

Directions: Ringgold High School to line up for the parade. As above take exit 348 then turn left onto Hwy 151. At the end of 151(or the 4th red light) take a right onto Hwy 41(Nashville St). At the next red light take a left onto Sparks St. The High school will be on the right. Look for detour signs pointing you in the direction of the lineup.
Portofino's is in the Remco Business Center, near Cracker Barrel. Heading south on I-75 take exit 348, Turn left onto Hwy 151 (aka Alabama hwy). Turn left at the second light onto Reeds Bridge Rd (at Walter Jackson Chevrolet). Then turn left onto Remco Lane (behind Taco Bell). You will pass the Cracker Barrel and Portofino will be in the shopping strip to the left.

Monday, December 17th - December Club Meeting & Christmas Party

Our next meeting at China Moon in Eastgate Town Center will be our 10th Annual Christmas Party! We will once again exchange gifts in a "Chinese Auction." For those of you who have never participated in one of these, you're in for a treat! Here's how it works. Everyone brings a wrapped gift (limit it to about $10 max. value). All the gifts are placed on a table and everyone draws a number. #1 goes up, picks out a gift, unwraps it and shows it to everyone. Then #2 can either take the gift from #1 OR an unwrapped gift from the table. This continues until everyone has gone. If someone takes your gift, you can take someone else's gift or get another one from the table. A gift can only change hands 3 times and then it's considered "dead." The trick to getting the gift you REALLY want is to be the third person to get it. Then no one can take it from you . . . except the person who drew #1. When the last person has their gift, the person who went first has the option of keeping the gift they ended up with OR trading gifts with anyone in the room, even if their gift is "dead." Needless to say, we've never had a dull Christmas party! We hope you will join us!
October Meeting Notes

Scenic City Volks Folks
Meeting notes
October 15, 2007

There were 23 Volks Folks members and 1 visitor at Monday nights meeting.

We watched a DVD that Kyle had brought in of Mid Americas 2005 car show in Effingham, Illinois. Using a projector, we were able to show the DVD on the wall which made it nice and easy to see. We will be doing more of this during the meetings. Also using the projector and a laptop computer, Zen showed us a brief preview of a little project he is working on. Zen is putting together a VW trivia game based on the format of the game show Jeopardy. This is also something that we will be incorporating into the meetings from time-to-time and promises to be a lot of fun and informative.

We were able to welcome one visitor, Herb Cropp from Marion County. We meet Herb at the Octoberfest. Herb has recently acquired a very nicely done 1970 Beetle. Thanks Herb for visiting with us and we look for ward to seeing you again.

For those of you that missed these two events, the club campout at Fort Mountain and the Octoberfest, you will want to make sure that you do attend them next time. Both events were a lot of fun. There are pictures from both events posted our club website. Be sure to take a look at the pictures and the fun we were having. Weather was perfect for both events.

There are several club members planning on making the trip to Dade City, Florida for the Bug Jam in November. If you have plans on going or would like to get more information about the show, let us know and we will put you in touch with one of the club members planning on making the trip.

Our next gathering will be the cruise-in at the Sonic Drive In on East Brainerd Road on November 2nd. We will meet there at 7:00 until ?. This will probably be our last outside cruise-in before the cold weather forces us to start meeting
inside for the winter. Be sure to make plans to come out and have that one last outdoor meeting. Its always a lot of fun with all kinds of VW story's being told. Laughter is abundant at these informal meetings. Bring a chair.

Our next regularly scheduled formal club meeting will be held on November 19th at the China Moon restaurant in the Eastgate Center on Brainerd road at 7:00. Mark your calendar and come join us.

Only 187 days left until Bug-a-Paluza 10

Lamar.
Oktoberfest @ the Chattanooga Market

Oktoberfest will be held Sunday Oct. 14th at The Chattanooga Market.

"This event is certainly one of the most festive days we have at the Chattanooga Market all year. Take in the sights and sounds of Chattanooga's only Oktoberfest celebration all afternoon on the Southside. Two great bands will entertain you and the dance floor will be out for polka dancing. A classic Volkswagen show always draws crowd. Home Brewing School by Chattanooga's Barley Mob Brewers will make the beer lover in your family a happy person. Of course you can't have an Oktoberfest without a beer garten with fresh grilled bratwurst and German potato salad. WIENER RACING WILL NOT TAKE PLACE AS A PART OF THE 2007 OKTOBERFEST"
On Labor Day (Sept. 3rd), the Volks Folks helped out with the Walker County Stocking Full of Love's annual Labor Day Car Show. The show received a tremendous amount of support this year. There were over 200 cars in the show and it raised over $3000! For the entire weekend (including a Motorcycle Poker Run and a Sock Hop) the Stocking Full of Love took in over $8300! The money will be used to help provide food and Christmas gifts for under-privileged children in the area! On behalf of those children, we want to thank each and every person who helped out by volunteering their time or showing their car!
On behalf of those children, we want to thank each and every person who helped out by volunteering their time or showing their car!
On Labor Day (Sept. 3rd), there will be an open car show to benefit the Walker County Stocking Full of Love. This is a well established show and attracts some of the best show cars from this area. There are classes for everything from original antiques to rods to muscle cars to tuners. There are several VW classes! The show is held at the Walker County Civic Center on US Hwy. 27 in Rock Spring, GA (about 3 miles south of Chickamauga Battlefield).

Once again, the Scenic City Volks Folks will provide the registration and judging for the show. We need volunteers! Registration starts at 8:00 AM and judging starts about noon. We should have our part done and be ready to leave no later than 3:00 PM. If you would like to help out this very worthy cause, please contact Zen Hendricks @ 423-605-9816.
