Hello, My name is Kevin Gabor- new menber to this club. I have been a VW beetle "fan" for over 30 years. I (along with my dad)owned a 1971 beetle in high school- my wife Stephanie (girl friend then) owned a 1966 VW in high school- we both learned to drive in a beetle and we both drove our bugs to school. I went into the Air Force in North Carolina in 1982- where my dad took possesion back of the 1971 beetle. I went looking for another old bug while in the service and found a stock 1966- It was a project car and my daily driver until I left the military in 1992 (sold it to a soldier on Fort Bragg). I've missed the car for 20 years!! I deeply regreted selling it- getting another VW bug "knawed" on me for that past 20 years. I recently just bought another VW bug I found in Georgia. Its a beautful 1967 Savannah beige bug. I look forward to meeting most of you at club events/ cruise ins or what ever. I am very glad to have found this club- I need technical help and to speak with some experts about my VW. Thanks for welcoming me and my wife into the Volksfolks- will be very nice to be in a group with like minded individuals and some serious VW enthusists and experts- I will need some direction for repairs/experts etc. thanks again Kevin Gabor

Kevin, Is you beetle raised? KC
It doesn't look raised up. '67's were the first Beetle to have the longer rear axles and they kind of lay'd down in the rear rear end .VW then added the extra overload torsion bar across the transmission to help out when 2-3 folks were in the back seat. This worked ok until the bushings wore out and made all kinds of noise and rattles, which was pretty fast. Owners simply took them off. A lot of people thought those bars were a sway bar . Not true. Even a few '68 had this bar until VW did away with it . Kevin, Welcome and have fun. DO NOT let anyone talk you into messing with your '67. Big wheels , Slam the front end down etc. That is one nice Bug. Keep it that way. My 2 new '67 Bugs were squatted down in the rear.

Thank you all very much- it does appear to be a pretty nice car, I think we will make it to the sonic for the cruise in. I will not ever mess with changing the bug- Im a fanatic about leaving them stock. when I bought it -the owner had taken off the original exhaust and put the headers on that you can see in the one picture. the first thing i did was take the headers off and put back on the orginal exhaust. He had also replaced the shift knob to a non stock wooden one seen in the one picture. i asked if he still had the old black orginal knob for the shifter and he did so he gave it to me and I put it back on. Thankfully no one has seemed to have messed with it at all. I just need to get the engine "tweeked" running a little hot and low power. maybe at the cruise in i can get some more pointers from yall the experts. Kevin

In reviewing my post I didn't inform that the cruise-in will be Friday evening. I hope I didn't mislead you in thinking it was tonight.
