Seems like everyone from the club who has chimed in so far wants the club to own it.  I think we need to decide one way or the other at the meeting tomorrow evening.

Don't know if I can come to the meeting tomorrow night... right now, bodywork on a certain big car with a looming deadline is ruling my very existance...  Embarrassed

As a matter of fact, that's what I've spent about 15 hours on this weekend alone, and I'm still prepping for paint as we speak...

I will say that I personally would prefer for the club to keep ownership of it in some shape or form, if possible, and someone local would be choice number two.  A better option than an individual would be somewhere that it could be displayed for the public.  A rep from VW, some position with the factory, had expressed an interest in acquiring it for the training center here in town.... but, alas, that seems to have been mostly talk leading to a dead end.  The offer I already had for it is a guy in Middle Tennessee... same state, but, realistically, would it ever see BAP again?  I dunno... but would keep that as a last case scenario.

Right now, though, it is a toe-biter for me... plain and simple...  I have not the room to keep it at home, nowhere at work any longer, so it's been tarped and locked up in the bus since the show.  Once the Plymouth is done, I have a bus to finish up.  I don't want my Westy to become a mobile storage locker... which is what has already happened.  Like I said, I will wait and see what the club wants to work out, if that's where we end up... but, if nothing is decided in another week, I will toss it up on the samba.  I just really didn't want to see some other show advertised somewhere, and my engine in the gallery section, if you get my drift.   Wink

Call it a home-team loyalty issue.  That's why I backed off the last time when I was kinda half-way offering it up.

I want to preface this by saying that I am a card carrying member of the club and I want this for all to see, but:
Club Factoids:
Factiod #1: we all know we want it.
Factoid #2: we have the monies to buy it from him.
Factoid #3: if we do not buy it then it'll be in the hands of someone who may or may not share it, (myself included...)

What is there to discuss?
Write the man a check and put it in with all the other stuff in the show trailer.

If not, I am serious about putting it in my office at work, and I would hope that I have dibbs on it.

For crying out loud !!!   Give the man the money.  This is a no-brainer.

No one can wait another day so that the club can decide this in the public eye and not a backroom deal? We don't want to crumple someone's panties by making decisions outside of a club meeting. I believe the club will do the responsible thing; it just has to be done the right way.

Hey I'm OK with that, I just want to assure that the art piece he has created will not be gone because we as a group of enthusiasts drug our feet...
I cannot attend tommorow, so I want there to be no question as to that I believe the club should buy it... LOL.
I'm done, unless we as a club decide not to buy it.

Let me just add that I, too, agree it should stay with the club. The engine is a piece of art that can attract a lot of attention in many ways and it is a draw at events like BAP.
Best it stay in "the family", so to speak, the members I have met seem to be great people, and it was created by one of your very own.
BUT...if it is going to be sold to someone I would at least offer a local option and would like the chance to purchase it.
If you decide not to keep it within the club and have a higher offer from a far-far-away land, I would like to know, I might be able to increase my offer. I have a little wiggle room.
No pressure...I'm not in a hurry and I certainly don't want to step on anyone's toes.

I agree.   I am just flattered by the show of support for my work.   Grin

Like I said, I am good with holding out for whatever the club decides first, then going from there.

I won't be able to make it to the meeting.  I ran just a bit short of time this weekend, and need tonight to spray the first color on the Plymouth.  June 6th is just around the color.  The car's still gonna smell like fresh paint for the wedding.   Cheesy

Nick, I don't think this is going to be anything close to a back room (done deal) problem considering we have been all over it for over a week on the forum and word of mouth with no objections . I'm going to try to make the meeting tonight if my back will let me.
