RBT: You'll hopefully be spotting me in either the '82 Wabbit vert, or the soon to be new to me '83 4 door Wabbit Diesel.
I was gonna throw a "you got a pretty mouth" joke at you, but then I figured you had heard that before and it wouldn't yank your chain....

Go ahead and throw it and see what happens.   The forums are getting boring again Wink I sort of been looking for a decent Rabbit Diesel myself seeing that I have 500 gallons of fuel in my basement

Megan and I could probably figure out a way to do something with 500 gallons of anything flammable!!! I'll go fire up the back hoe and trench my way over
You might have a problem with the railroad tracks

(we live on the same side of the tracks... I know you'd like to think I live on the other side, but I don't)

I know you can on the earlier diesels. not so sure on the TDI.  I had a few customer that did this very thing.  I had one customer(Traveling salesman)  who bought a new '79 4 speed and used home heating oil for about 350k miles before getting the car totaled . He maintained this car to the max. The only major repair was a head gasket at about 200k due to a oil leak at the oil return galley between the head and block. He heated his home with oil so he bought an extra 250 gal tank to use for the car(no road tax) Here is something pretty cool. He bought a aux fuel tank that you use to be able to buy for the car. It went into the spare tire space . It was round and held 10 gal's. He just love to show me his maint./trip log. He was getting in the middle to high 40's mpg and sometime 51-52 mpg. Who needs a freaking hybrid. Think about the miles traveled with 20 gal in the back.

The new Common Rail (CR) 2.0 TDI engine is not approved by VW to run anything above B5 biodiesel.

The High Pressure Fuel Pump and filtering system in that engine is very touchy.  If any kind of bad fuel, water, gas gets in it, the HPFP ends up destroying itself and sending the metal parts through the engine... resulting in a whole engine and fuel line replacement.

It will not damage the engine however the entire fuel system (anything fuel touches) should be replaced per vw.  They should not run anything but low sulfur diesel.  Part of the problem is how fuel is Delivered in the us,  it ends up with gas and water in it from the pump

Hmmmmm If ones wife has a Boy friend and drives a TDI, all you would have to do is have a few beers ,find out where he parks his TDI and choke your chicken, throw down , what ever you want to call it. Grin Grin

Sorry, not a whole engine change.  I was told it was about a $8,000 bill if you have to pay for it yourself.  Is that accurate?

Yes,  at least that much,  they are working to build a better pump and fix the problem,  vw is not the only one having the problem,  I hear the other euro diesels are in the same boat

Spotted: one really old geezer driving a dodge pickup at the intersection of Bass and Old Birds Mill rd. He looked kinda out of it like his give-a-damn was busted, just smiling and waving. Hope he remembers where he lives...
