Saw a MKIV Jetta GLi on campus today, dark blue with aftermarket rims, and instead of "Jetta" of the left side of the trunk it said "Bora"
Seems that the Jetta is called a Bora everywhere in the world except the US now . The one you saw is not a U.S. spec car. I wonder how it got here?  The Aussies have a version of the Bora powered buy a 2.3 V-5. Yes I said a V-5

I'm sure it was just a US Jetta that someone slapped a 'Bora' emblem on. You can order them online.

Yeah when I went to Merida, Mexico they had Boras instead of Jettas. You older Bug fans would love it there. Most popular car by far down far. They also had some hatchbacks that were not made in America. And a VW truck actually.

Hey LeftLane, You to get on the VW of Mexico web site and the VW of Brazil web site. You will see VW stuff that will blow you away. We get all the junk.  The only VW's ever built in the U.S. were the Rabbits '80-83(?) and later the Rabbit P.U. (Caddys) in Westmoreland PA and control/ ruined by the U.W.A. VW closed the plant due to the very poor quality of product. Now we have the new Passat (Camery)  made here. I hope this car is better than the early ones.
I think most of the Bugs were on Taxi duty and still are. I don't think VW ever will make a car that is more loved and dependable than the old faithful Beetle. You young dudes driving Watercools will never understand that.

I meant made for America. Obviously I know that most VW's were/are not made in America. Also, the new Passat got MT car of the year so I'm guessing it's not too bad of a car. Actually, most of the taxi's I saw were Nissans or some other import. And the taxi driver I rode with had the weirdest driving style I've ever seen (maybe his clutch was bad), but that's another story. I also do understand the Beetle's popularity, thanks, as I have known several people who have owned them.

Isn't he the Dude thats almost middle age and still in school?

That has nothing to do with being from North Georgia.  It's his A.D.D. kicking in.  He's still trying to decide what he wants to be when he grows up!  Grin  Maybe after he gets that figured out he can figure out what kind of VW he wants to drive.  One day he shows up at work in a Passat, the next in bus . . . today he showed up in Rabbit convertible.  And a while back, he couldn't even decide which side of the car he wanted to drive from!   Grin

Seeing how KC is N.Ga's Arab Trader and $5.00 a gallon gas  right around the corner. I  wouldn't be surprise if he showed up on a Camel. The problem is, would it be a "one humper" or a "two humper"?

RBT: You'll hopefully be spotting me in either the '82 Wabbit vert, or the soon to be new to me '83 4 door Wabbit Diesel.
I was gonna throw a "you got a pretty mouth" joke at you, but then I figured you had heard that before and it wouldn't yank your chain....
