This morning I came home and found some idiots try to steal one of my bugs. It was at the bottom of my driveway partially down the street.I 1st thought it rolled there but theres no way it could have,Then  a neighbor said 2 guys were trying to hook it to a truck.

The sad thing is this looks normal,it's not the 1st set of guys showin up to tow away a VW at my house. The saddest thing is there were 3 bugs here. My 67,a68,and a 64. My 67 was unlocked, the 68 is full of parts and had a tow bar hstill hooked to it.The 64 looks like hell and has no floorpans or front glass.Guess what they chose to steal? The 64! Morons! Anyway it was real fun pushin it back in the driveway.

After talking with the Police I found that old VW theft is on the rise. Be aware of 2 guys in an older, beat up chevy(white).Apparently they have been seen around town right before an old beater disapears. They took a 67 Chevelle from East ridge a few months ago.

A good point the officer shared is very few folks write down VIN info for old parts cars,so you cant prove they stole it.So if you have a car or 10 in the yard make sure to write down your info or the junk theives might take it.I wouldn't be surprised if they are scrappin them for metal.

if someone hopped my double fence they'd find a gold mine

Personally I would have opted for the car with the tow bar if i were trying for a quick getaway... but then again, i wouldnt steal your vw. guess it's time to move some more of my stuff "out of sight"

We have bill of sales or titles for all of our cars anyway, but if they took one of ours we probably wouldn't notice for a few months, atleast.

I think you hit the nail on the head there as well. Most wouldn't notice right away.

I find that to be alarming, pathetic, and ridiculous in the same moment.  Of the three, I would obviously have gone for the '67, myself.  I'm glad to have seen this one, though.  It'll make me take more steps toward sercuring what few cars I have left around here.

If you came to my house you would think no one lived there.I just put everything up.I have been very lucky not to have had anything stolen in the 28 years I have been here. When I bought my house back in 80 I moved in a neighborhood woth mostly retired people in it when I was in my early thirties.Don't think neighbors won't steal either.Or they can put out the word by mistake or on purpose.I think I have one grill out that I leave out on the deck. When cb radios were popular someone got mine out of my 71 bug one night. But you know usually it's an aquantance that get's it. Not a total stranger lol.

Yes most of them aren't the sharpest people I have met lol.Someone stole my trailer tag off my trailer parked somewhere. The tag office asked if I wanted to file a report. No because first they will not look for it at all and second I still have to pay for another tag.I asked are you going to give me a free tag until you find it.And you know the answer. But I got a kick out of it asking.
