Well, remember on an air-cooled car you're turning the fan along with the generator/alternator, so that's where your drag is coming from in that case. Years ago the Vee drivers ran their fan belts loose to get that extra bit of HP. Eventually they let us scrap the fan altogether and run with forward-facing air scoops.
Another thought-how about a larger alternator pulley so it spins slower and takes less effort from the engine?
If I remember correctly I was told that on the air-cool , the Gen. use up about 3-5 HP at speed. Thats a load on a 50-60 HP engine. I believe the gen. turns 1 1/2 times more RPM's than the crankshaft.  Remember the small dia. "power pulley" you could buy for the crankshaft. They worked except I was concerned about over-heating at freeway speeds in hot weather . A oven therm. proved that fact to me. I think all this "messing around"destroying" a nice  car is a waste of time for what you can gain in MPG unless you are just bored to death and needed something to do.  "Pop" Coker, Corkey's grandpa told me a long time ago that his 40hp A model Fords only got about 15 MPG. Now we have 300-400 HP rolling stock getting high 20's to low 30's MPG.

The motorcycle racers would use motor oil instead of grease for the wheel bearings,  but I think it reduced the life of the bearing

Maybe you've gone too far. Your wing was obviously too aerodynamic for it to fly away!

Please tell me you made that out of paper, NOT aluminum.
Otherwise the guy behind you may be paying you a little visit.

I wish it was aluminum.  I also wish I tried conserving the alum sheet I had.  Right now I have about 10 lbs of jagged triangles and Curves.  My Spoiler was made out of plastic Camel cigarette advertise board .   I  did not really loose it .  It sort of separated from the roof like a kite that uses duct tape for string.  The Driver behind me probably sharted his drawers  but he was safe since I heard that rippey sound that only duct tapes makes and pulled off at the grave yard.  Sc

I made a new improved spoiler this after noon.  Spoiler 2  will be tried out Friday.  SC

I have stupie under a tree in the Triangle house.  He would not start when we moved  and I told him if he was going to act this way he could just stay.  I plan to drag him to ringgold as soon as I fix the the sabb, and sell the lumina.

I scored these rims  and low porfile tires at the triangle junk yard.  30 bucks for rim and tire.  I hope the fit.

Your dirt driveway looks nice. How do you keep it from looking dirty?
